Liveblogging a Startup PR Firm
If you've ever thought about hanging out your own shingle in the Washington PR world, it's worth checking out "Diary of an Ad Man," Geoff Livingston's blog that pulls the curtain back on Livingston's one-man quest to set up his own communications firm in Alexandria. Livingston Communications focuses on B2B, B2G and consumer work, but the real fun of the blog is reading Geoff's unfiltered musings on the day-to-day work of starting up a firm. Some choice excerpts:
- "Notes on the business side. Just passed $50K in net revenue collected,
not bad for the middle of my sixth month (especially given the whole
flood episode). Of course, there are a lot of costs associated with
starting a company so this is definitely not my profit (far from it)."
- "Pitching the media today and getting lot’s of voicemail (woo hoo). Will do another round in the late afternoon. Zzzzzz."
- "Speaking of, got two more very interesting clients yesterday, again both consumer. One is a quick consulting gig on blogging for an acupuncturist. The second is a small holiday ad campaign for a day spa. My wife is very happy and wants me to do in kind services, hmmm."
