JOB(S) OF THE WEEK: House GOP offices, Communications Director and Press Secretary

Press Conference The following two House GOP job openings were advertised through the Republican Communications Association (RCA):

1) Communications Director – Conservative Republican House Member is seeking an experienced Communications Director to handle all press and communications operations in the office. This includes an aggressive approach to earned and social media along with heavy writing and constituent outreach programs. The candidate must have Hill experience, a strong communications background, excellent writing skills, be very flexible, and thrive in a demanding, busy environment. Operating with a sense of urgency and a passion for social media is a must.

2) Press Secretary - Republican Member seeks a Press Secretary with strong writing background and a team player attitude. Responsibilities include drafting/distributing press releases; writing op-eds and/or letters to the editor; monthly e-newsletter; updating and improving the website; booking interviews and pitching stories; establishing and maintaining strong relations with local and national media;  and preparation of talking points and speeches.  Also, the candidate should have knowledge of video, audio and/or photography and editing in those medium. Preferred candidates should have knowledge of Congressional legislative process, proficiency with new media, on the record experience, and ability to identify press opportunities. This position reports to the Chief of Staff.

    Blain K. Rethmeier - Contributor
    Blain K. Rethmeier is currently the Senior Vice President for Public Affairs for the American Insurance Association (AIA). Rethmeier joined AIA from the White House where he served as Special Assistant to the President for Communications and directed communications for the National Economic Council and Homeland Security Council. Prior to joining the White House, Rethmeier served as Press Secretary for the Senate Judiciary Committee.
