Levine Leaves ABC News, Townsend Returns as New VP of Communications

First reported on PR Newser, Cathie Levine Isay has stepped down as VP of Communications for ABC News.  Levine first joined the network in 2001 as a Publicist for World News Tonight and has since worked with anchors Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer and promoted the network’s coverage of the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections.

Julie Townsend has been named the new VP of Communications.  Townsend comes from Emanate Public Relations, where she served as VP, Client Service and worked with clients including Bank of America and Embassy Suites.  For Townsend this is a return to a former employer.  She previously worked at ABC News from 2003-2005, rising to the level of Director of Media Relations where she launched ABC News Now.  At that time she left ABC News for NBC Universal where she served as Director of Corporate Communications.  She was also a Legislative Assistant at UPS.  Townsend is a graduate of Davidson College.  (PR Newser)

12-Year CNN Producer Glass Leaves for Reingold, Inc.

First reported by Mike Allen in his Politico “Playbook”, CNN Congressional producer Evan Glass is leaving the network after 12 years for Reingold, Inc., a DC-based strategic communications firm. 

Reingold’s business motto is “a private sector firm with a public service soul.”  Reingold lists four focus areas: health care, education, environment and workforce development. 

Glass is a native of Westbury, NY, a resident of Silver Spring, MD and a 1999 graduate of American University.

CBS News Names McNair Head of Communications

First reported in Politico’s “Playbook”, Sonya McNair has been named the new Head of Communications for CBS News.  McNair will oversee all media and talent relations, as well as public affairs for CBS News, including strategic planning, day-to-day publicity, internal and external communications.  McNair joined CBS News as a consultant in March 2009 and she was appointed Vice President in May of that year. 

According to the New York Post, McNair oversee approximately 48 different departments (including media and talent relations for CBS News, CBS Radio News and the CBS News Polling & Survey Unit).  Her resume includes 16 years at ABC News and stints in PR at The New Yorker, Essence Communications and Fox Broadcasting.  (Politico’s “Playbook” and the New York Post)
